Why I'm A Fan Of The Colorado Rapids!

I came to soccer late in life and, initially, as a way to connect with my students at an international school. Cheering for home countries during the World Cup is exciting and a great way for teens to show their pride. Upon returning to the US I found it was a way to help a student in need. Two years ago a boy in my class was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. For his class project, he read The Keeper by Tim Howard and made a life-size cut-out of Tim with important and inspiring quotes. I contacted Tim and he was kind enough to send my student a video message wishing him well. My student is now healthy and starting college in the fall. I started following Tim because of his generosity. First, I regularly watched Everton and the USMNT. Now it's the Rapids. I'll be visiting Denver soon to attend my first Rapids game and I can't wait. Any team that can attract someone of Tim Howard's caliber is worth cheering for and as I've learned more about the other players, I'm proud to support a group of caring, down-to-earth role models for young people like my students!
