Colorado Rapids Homegrown player Ricardo Perez has been loaned to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks as of Saturday, April 29. Perez signed with the Rapids on January 6, but has yet to make his MLS debut for the Rapids. He did travel to New York as part of the game day 18 back in March.
Perez started for the Switchbacks on Saturday, and netted the equalizer in the 40th minute on a deflection off a defender. The Switchbacks ended up losing to Seattle FC 2 by a score of 3-2.
According to our resident Switchbacks reporter @andJasonsez:
He seemed to mesh well with team, considering the elements. The wind chill was in the low teens, with heavy wind, and the field was frozen after getting 6-8 inches on it. I suspect he'll be around for a bit, as we are down two midfielders, Luke Vercollone and Chris James are out with injuries.
Perez came up through the Rapids Development Academy, spending five years in the system before playing at Creighton University in Nebraska. At Creighton, he was named 2016 Big East Midfielder of the Year, and was co-captain of the Bluejays. Perez never missed a game and scored 15 goals with nine assists.
UPDATE: Perez was back in Denver and practicing with the Rapids today (5/2), so we aren’t sure if it was a one-game loan or what. More info. will be added when/if we can get it!
