On Saturday, May 13th, the Colorado Rapids will play host to the San Jose Earthquakes at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Kickoff is set for 2:00pm MT and the match will be broadcast on UniMás. The Rapids will look to get back to winnings ways, after losing five straight games.
The Colorado Rapids will look to get their first win since opening day of the season as the San Jose Earthquakes will make their first trip to Colorado in 2017. The Rapids were dominant at home last season, but so far the Commerce City side have been unable to duplicate that success with two losses and a draw at home since that first game.
Colorado (1-6-1, 4 points) are currently at the bottom of the entire league. The team have lost all four of their away fixtures and have only won once at home. Last Friday, the Rapids had a disappointing home loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps. Vancouver winger Brek Shea found the score sheet late in the game on a counterattack and calmly slotted the ball past Tim Howard.
San Jose (4-3-3. 15 points) are in 5th place in the Western Conference. Last Saturday, the Earthquakes defeated the Portland Timbers at the Avaya stadium by a scoreline of 3-0. Chris Wondolowski scored two goals, while Jahmir Hyka scored his second goal of the season courtesy of a Wondolowski assist. So far, San Jose are unbeaten at home this season, winning three times and drawing twice.
The Rapids have received a boost with defender Axel Sjoberg returning to training this week. However, it is unlikely the towering Swedish player will be available for selection on Saturday. Nana Boateng is still injured as well. Colorado outside back Mekeil Williams will be unavailable as the Trinidad & Tobago defender is serving a suspension after receiving two yellows (resulting in a red) in the last game.
OUT: Axel Sjoberg (hamstring), Bismarck Adeji-Boateng (back)
