After battling to a draw in las week against the Oklahoma City Energy and collecting a forfeit victory over the Tulsa Roughnecks from week one of the season, the Colorado Switchbacks (1-1-0) will be looking to improve their record as they visit the San Antonio FC (2-0-0) tonight.

In the first two games of the season, San Antonio FC has defeated the likes of the RGV FC Toros, as well as the LA Galaxy 2. In their first game of the season against the Toros, San Antonio came to a narrow 1-0 victory. Things opened up a little more in their second game against the Galaxy, as San Antonio walked away with the convincing 3-0 victory.

The Switchbacks previous two games have been quite interesting. In their first game against the Tulsa Roughnecks, the Switchbacks lost 4-1. However, the Roughnecks decided to field a player who was ineligible, and was forced to give the Switchbacks the 3-0 forfeit victory.

Following the forfeit victory, the Switchbacks hosted Oklahoma City Energy, where they battled it out to a 1-1 draw.

Looking Ahead To San Antonio

The Switchbacks will be in for a tough game against San Antonio, as this is an opposition that is extremely formidable, and is known for being a highflying squad that is tough for any team in the USL.

Switchbacks Head Coach Steve Trittschuh praised the opposition by saying, “San Antonio are a good, organized and disciplined team, they’re flying high right now and they looked solid versus L.A. [Galaxy II] on Saturday. As a team we have got to be better if we want to get a result against them. I told the guys to bring up their intensity this week in practice and we’ll see just how much we’re able to improve because we will need to if we want to get the result down there.”

One of the main players the Switchbacks will have to keep an eye on during the game is San Antonio midfielder Billy Forbes. He has found the back of the net twice in the first two games of this brand new season.

As a team, San Antonio can possess the ball with the best of the teams in the USL. They wait for the best opportunity to strike, and that is exactly what they did to dismantle LA Galaxy 2 in their home opener. They will wait until they can get in a long through pass, and once they have the ball set up in the opposition’s box they will send every opportunity they have on net.

Not only are they are formidable foe on the offensive side of play, but they are a strong defensive team. The Galaxy had plenty of chances to get on the board, but the San Antonio defense along with goalkeeper Matt Cardone were able to shut it down.

The Switchbacks will indeed have a tough test in front of them, but it will make for an instant classic and will be used to measure the team for the rest of this long season.

After this trip to San Antonio, the Switchbacks will stay in Texas as they will take on the Rio Grand Valley FC Toros (0-0-2) on Wednesday April 12th at 5 pm MDT.
