POLL: Who should be the next Colorado Rapids captain?

The surprising departure of Sam Cronin leaves some big shoes to fill.

MLS: Playoffs-Los Angeles Galaxy at Colorado Rapids Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

One of the biggest reasons that the Sam Cronin news was so shocking to me was because he was our captain. I’m a fan of him as a player, but he was also a true leader on (and off) the field. Cronin was the first one to run up when the referee made a bad call, and was one of the most passionate players we had. At the first annual awards gala at the end of last season, he was awarded the Players’ Player of the Year. Even though I understand why the decision was made, it’s still hard to accept that a guy that just about everyone loved is gone.

Whoever steps up to wear the armband next will have some big shoes to fill.

In the past, guys like Bobby Burling, Kevin Doyle, Drew Moor, and current Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni have worn the armband for the Burgundy Boys, and they all have similar characteristics: grit, passion, experience, and leadership skills. The new guy(s) will need to be someone that both the team and the refs respect, and someone the players can trust to stand up for them.

With that in mind, who do you think should be the next captain for the Rapids? Vote below and tell us why in the comments!
