Round 1 of the 2017 Rocky Mountain Cup is in Colorado.

MLS: Real Salt Lake at Colorado Rapids Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Even though there’s a bit of a damper on today’s match after the news about Tim Howard’s three-game suspension came out just last night, any day that the Colorado Rapids have the chance to beat Real Salt Lake is still a good day. The teams are currently sitting pretty close to each other in the standings, the Rapids have two games in hand right now. Both teams have just one win so far this season, but Dick’s Sporting Goods Park has been a fortress for more than a year now, so it’s not going to be an easy day for new head coach Mike Petke.

The Rapids are still trying to figure out their lineup, with the early season injury for Axel Sjoberg, the loss of Sam Cronin and March Burch, and now the suspension for Tim Howard. Luckily, Zac MacMath is a reliable backup keeper who is always ready to step in. Kortne Ford is getting the start again, and Sam Hamilton is on the bench.
