A couple months ago, it was announced that the well-known La Liga squad FC Barcelona would be expanding it’s U.S. summer camp options from 10 cities in 2016 to 23 cities in 2017, and they’re coming to Denver! Coaches from Barca’s academy (FCB Escola) will lead the camp, and a select group of kids from all of the camps around the United States will be offered the chance to train in Barcelona. Last year, the kids got to meet Neymar Jr. and Rafinha, so you never know who might show up.
Marc Segarra, Co-Founder of ISL Fútbol and responsible for expanding the FCB Escola system in the U.S., said that there are three goals for the kids who participate in the program: “We want the players to taste and learn from a different style of play and coaches; be able to expose the kids to a different culture, type of education and values; and provide an opportunity for players to be selected to train in our HQ.”
This is the first international program to be established in Denver, and FC Barcelona wants to “connect American brands and fans with the club, teaching young generations about our style of play, methodology and values with the opportunity to be selected to train overseas (FCB Escola) and being able to provide this unique experience to everybody throughout key foundation/non-profit partnerships in certain locations.”
What can the kids expect at the camp? “Friendly environment, high level of professionalism,” Segarra explains. “Authenticity, thick accents straight from Barcelona.”
The camp will take place from July 17-21 at Aurora Sports Park, and is for boys and girls that are between 6-16 years old. Currently, the registration fee is $495, but will go up as it gets closer to the July. For more information and to register, visit the website.
