About an hour ago, the Colorado Rapids announced the signing of University of Denver midfielder and first round Super Draft pick Sam Hamilton. He was signed to a 2017 contract, with options for 2018, 2019, and 2020. Hamilton was a part of the unbeaten DU squad that went to their first-ever College Cup in 2016, and earned First Team All-Summit League honors. Hamilton didn’t have any goals, but had nine assists.
In the official announcement Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni said,
“Sam is technically very good on the ball and can cover a lot of ground in the center of the field. His work ethic, positive attitude and mentality since his arrival has earned him the right to be a member of this club. We’re happy to officially welcome Sam to the Rapids.”
The addition of Hamilton puts the Rapids roster at 24, and the only unsigned player still hanging around is Jaime Siaj. Goalkeeper Cody Mizell is also with the team on loan from Charlotte Independence.
From what I’ve seen, he’s a hard worker and is super psyched to be a part of the Colorado squad. We’re pretty psyched, too.
Congrats, Sam! Welcome to team (officially)!
