We’ve got another Rapids rumor!
It looks like the Colorado Rapids are keeping an eye on Melbourne City midfielder Neil Kilkenny. ESPN FC reported that a “number of Major League Soccer sides” are interested in Kilkenny, who won both Player of the Year and Supporters' Player of the Year in his debut season with Melbourne City in 2016.
So far this season, Kilkenny has only appeared in three games, leaving many to wonder about his future in the club.
The 32-year-old grew up in the Arsenal youth system in England, and played for England’s U-18 and U-20 national team. Kilkenny played for Ireland’s U-19 squad, and then committed to Australia’s national team for the 2006 World Cup. He was in the 18-man squad for Australia for the 2008 Olympics, but wasn’t called up for the 2010 World Cup squad.
The Rapids officially have “no comment” on the situation.
Thanks to John Rosch for the tip on this one!
