We all know that Jared Watts was issued a red card in the 12th minutes and kicked out of the game last weekend. (The Colorado Rapids played a man down until Montreal’s Daniel Lovitz also earned a red and got booted from the game in the 32nd minute.)
A red and an ejection meant that Watts would be out for this weekend’s match vs. Real Salt Lake, but the Disciplinary Committee apparently didn’t feel as though that was enough. They have suspended him for an extra game and also issued an undisclosed fine.
So now Watts is out against Dallas and also out against RSL, which means he’s done at home for the Rapids for this season.
Do I think that’s a bit of an extreme response? Yes. The red card and one-game suspension was plenty for the foul. It was a stupid, unnecessary foul, but IMO justice was served on the field.
You can watch it again here.
Do you think a two-game suspension is fair?
