On Sunday, October 15th, the Colorado Rapids will play host to rivals Real Salt Lake at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in the final home match of the season. Kickoff is set for 5:30pm and the match will be broadcast on Altitude.
The league regular season is coming to a close and while some teams are preparing for the playoffs, the Colorado Rapids have their sights set on finishing the campaign on a positive note with just two fixtures remaining. Tim Howard will return to the team from United States national team duty from the international break. Howard was in goal for USA as they shockingly lost to Trinidad & Tobago by a score of 2-1 in Couva. in the aftermath, the U.S. failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1986.
Colorado (8-18-6, 30 points) have a chance to potentially play spoiler as Real Salt Lake are just one point out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Rapids have lost both matches against RSL this season but can deal the Utah side a blow in their goal of qualifying for the postseason. This is also Colorado’s third straight home game and the Rocky Mountain side sit just above LA Galaxy in the Western table. Both teams are trying to avoid last place in the conference.
RSL (12-14-6, 42 points) are hoping to earn a playoff spot in a crowded Western Conference that currently sees them just one point behind FC Dallas. Real have lost only two games in their last 13, making them one of the most consistent teams in MLS over that span.
Rapids defender Mekeil Williams is returning from international duty with Trinidad & Tobago. However, the outside back is doubtful with an ankle injury. Rapids defensive player Jared Watts will return after serving a 2-match suspension. Colorado will conclude the regular season away at Seattle next Sunday.
