The Colorado Rapids are about to play one of the most important fixtures of the season if they want to stay near the summit of the Western Conference and look to host a home playoff game. The Supporters' Shield trophy might be out of reach for the Rocky Mountain side, but the Rapids need a victory to get back on track and bounce back from a two-game losing streak.
Colorado (11-5-10, 43 points) have fallen to 4th place in the Western Conference after being on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat in Foxborough, Massachusetts against New England Revolution. Dillon Powers had some great chances to score for the Rapids but Revs goalkeeper Brad Knighton made some fantastic saves to preserve the clean sheet and help New England to their first win in six games.
FC Dallas (15-7-6, 51 points) are in the driver's seat for the Supporter's Shield trophy after a 3-1 home win over Portland Timbers on the weekend. Mauro Diaz, Victor Ulloa, and Walker Zimmerman all found the scoresheet while Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri scored a late consolation.
Rapids attacking midfielder Jermaine Jones will most likely miss the match after the USA international has been suffering from a lower-leg injury. Jones was recently evaluated by the United States Soccer Federation during the international break, but was sent back to Colorado to continue his rehab. However, the Rapids will have a boost as Shkelzen Gashi, Marco Pappa, Mekeil Williams, and Tim Howard will all return from international duty.
