The Colorado Rapids will look to get closer to locking up a playoff spot as they will do battle with the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place on Saturday evening. Vancouver are in desperate need for some points as they are currently 8th place in the Western Conference. The Rapids have had struggles all season scoring goals, but have had a solid defense throughout the season.
Colorado (12-5-11, 47 points) are coming off a 0-0 home draw against the San Jose Earthquakes. Offensively the Rapids couldn't muster much in terms of chances, but Tim Howard earned another clean sheet with some fantastic saves. The Rapids still have an outside chance at the Supporters' Shield despite being 5 points back from FC Dallas in the race for the best record in Major League Soccer.
Vancouver (9-14-7, 34 points) are coming off a disappointing 1-0 loss to the Seattle Sounders on September 17th. Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson isn't ready to throw in the towel and was recently quoted by stating the British Columbia side still have a chance to qualify for the postseason. Sounders rookie forward Jordan Morris scored the only goal of the game to nearly end Vancouver's quest to make the playoffs.
Carl Robinson was full of praise for Pablo Mastroeni, stating that the former Rapids player has made changes this season and has his side effectively qualified for the playoffs. Rapids midfielder Jermaine Jones is not expected to feature, as the USA International is still recovering from a lower leg injury. It is also noteworthy that Vancouver have lost six of their past eight matches.
