The Colorado Rapids dropped two points at home in a match where they needed all three. The Rapids tied the San Jose Earthquakes 0-0 in front a good size crowd at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
The Rapids had several chances in the first and second half.
Marlon Hairston tried to chip Earthquakes keeper David Bingham (and he missed), but not before Bingham took out Hairston just after he chipped it. I think on other parts of the pitch that is a foul, but was not called here.
Dominique Badji had two good opportunities and was not able to get them in the back of the net. One he waited too long and Bingham was able to push it wide, taking away the opportunity as Badji shot across the front of goal. The last one-on-one opportunity, Badji powered it right into Bingham’s legs. Badji needs to do better.
Overall it was a good defensive night, but there was a lot of slipping from the players. I don’t know if it was the weather, the field after being in concert mode for the last few weeks, or players not wearing long studs. That will be something to watch in the future.
