The Colorado Rapids finally (and somewhat surprisingly) got a win last week in Frisco vs. FC Dallas, and Rapids faithful breathed a collective sigh of relief. That was a HUGE win for the Burgundy Boys, not only because Dallas had been unbeaten at home, but also because the Rapids desperately needed the points to stay in the race for the top of both the Western Conference and the Supporters’ Shield standings. The win in Dallas was just what the team needed to get back on track after a rough couple of months.
This week, it’s the Rapids turn to defend their unbeaten streak at DSGP, against a San Jose side that is sitting in 8th place in the conference with 33 points. The Earthquakes are the only team that has scored less goals than the Rapids this season.
It’s not going to be a piece of cake game for the Rapids tonight.
The Rapids haven’t beaten the Earthquakes in their last 13 match-ups, and San Jose has only lost one game at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in the last 10 games (on August 7, 2010). In the last three games, San Jose held held the Rapids to two goals, and came away with three ties. Chris Wondolowski has 10 goals against four different squads in MLS, including the Rapids. If he scores an 11th goal against them tonight, it will be a career high for the captain against any club.
