The Colorado Rapids will play Orlando City for the first time in Major League Soccer on Saturday evening at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Both sides played each other before in a US Open Cup match in 2014 but that was when Orlando was in the third tier of US Soccer in the United Soccer League. Former FIFA World player of the year Kaka is expected to play for Orlando against the Rapids.
Colorado (11-3-9, 42 points) are coming off a decent road result at LA Galaxy on the weekend. Shkelzen Gashi scored a fantastic goal as the Rapids held on for a 1-1 draw against one of the league's best teams. LA Galaxy and Colorado both boast the league's best defensive record in MLS. Daniel Steres found the scoresheet for LA Galaxy as both teams earned a share of the spoils at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
Orlando City (5-6-12, 27 points) are currently on the outside looking in when it comes to a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference Standings. Orlando are coming off a 2-2 draw against bottom-feeders Chicago Fire. The Florida club have only managed one win on the road all season while the Rapids are undefeated at home in 2016. Canadian International Cyle Larin leads the Florida side with 12 goals this season.
The Rapids will be wise not to look ahead to their Friday night matchup against archrivals Real Salt Lake in Utah. A chance to win the Rocky Mountain Cup is always nice, but there is business to take care of in Commerce City on Saturday night in front of what is expected to be a sellout crowd. Colorado head coach Pablo Mastroeni has so far exceeded expectations but the Rocky Mountain side are in the hunt for the coveted MLS Supporter's Shield trophy.
