Charlotte Independence drew 2-2 with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on a questionable penalty call in the 86th minute. Now, they come back to the friendly confines of Ramblewood Sports Complex in Charlotte to take on their intrastate rival, the Wilmington Hammerheads at 5:00 pm MT.
Where They Stand
The Independence are seventh in the east (9-6-6 at 33 points) with a four-game unbeaten streak, and standing nine points ahead of the ninth place Hammerheads (6-9-6 at 24 points). The Hammerheads have lost two in a row, with the last being a 2-0 loss to the Rochester Rhinos.
Head to head, Wilmington leads the season series 1-0-1, but clearly the Independence have more momentum coming into this match.
Keep an eye on Independence leaders Caleb Calvert and Enzo Martinez, who lead the Independence with six goals a piece. Bruno Perone leads Wilmington with five.
