The Colorado Rapids and Portland Timbers took the the field for the first time as opponents in 2016 tonight at a sold out Dick's Sporting Goods Park and battled to an ugly 0-0 draw. For the Rapids it represented a second consecutive match that they did not score, and if we are being honest here--this is a match that Portland should have won. They struck the post twice and were far and away the more dangerous team.
The Timbers had the better of the chances throughout the match and the Rapids seemed disinterested for large portions of this game. The two best chances came late in both halves as the Timbers struck the post late in the first and late in the second half. It was a poor effort by the Rapids and one that dropped them out of the Supporters Shield lead.
The Rapids are back in action on Saturday at Vancouver Whitecaps at 8:00 PM MDT.
