The Colorado Rapids will look to stay unbeaten at home as they take on the defending MLS Champion Portland Timbers on Monday evening. It is the first time both of these teams have played each other in 2016. After the match, fans are encouraged to stay for the fireworks show.
Colorado (9-2-5, 32 points) have had a dream first part of the season thanks in large to new signings Jermaine Jones and Shkelzen Gashi. Both have been fantastic and praise is also due to Zac MacMath, despite the goalkeeper being a little shaky in the early stages of the season.
Portland (6-6-5, 23 points) have been up and down this season since winning their first MLS Championship. However, the Oregon side are currently in a playoff spot and had a thrilling 3-2 victory over Houston Dynamo in the last week of June. Most recently, the Timbers lost to LA Galaxy 1-0 in the US Open Cup.
Rapids fans will be hoping the fireworks will be on the pitch in addition to after the game as the Rapids have had no trouble scoring goals in 2016. Tim Howard is expected to start should his ITC paperwork be processed in time. The former Everton goalkeeper has been training with the Rapids for the past week since arriving for United States National Team duty.
