A Burgundy July: Looking Ahead at the Seventh Month of the Year

The Rapids have a busy month in July. How will they deal with it?

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado Rapids return to Major League Soccer action this Monday when they take on Portland Timbers at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.  That match begins a busy month with few easy games and four of five matches against the Western Conference.

Here is our look at July:

4 July--vs Portland Timbers--7PM--Dick's Sporting Goods Park

The Rapids take on the defending MLS Cup Champions for the first time in 2016 and for the Rapids this may be the biggest regular season game in their history.  They will trot out their best collection of talent the club has ever had, oh, and that Tim Howard guy too.  Rapids win

9 July at Vancouver Whitecaps--8PM MT--BC Place

This is the trickiest fixture of the month as the Rapids will head North of the Border to take on a very good Whitecaps team.  The Rapids do not play all that well at BC Place and with the turf and the short week this will be a challenge for the Burgundy Boys.  Rapids loss

16 July vs Sporting Kansas City--7PM MT--Dick's Sporting Goods Park

Wow.  This one is interesting.  The Rapids are a better team than Sporting (how weird does that still sound) but the Rapids are playing excellent football and have not lost to Sporting in forever, so this should be a win.  But, of all of the games this month, this is the hardest to predict.  Sporting are due to get on a run and are due to beat the Rapids.  But it won't be tonight.  Rapids win

23 July vs FC Dallas--7PM MT--Dick's Sporting Goods Park

I used to like Dallas.  I don't anymore after the horror tackle on Dillon Serna in the US Open Cup match on Wednesday.  I want to beat them like 37-0 in this match, but it will be much closer.  Rapids draw

30 July 2016 at New York City FC--1PM MT--Yankee Stadium

The Rapids make their first trip to the home baseball soccer stadium that houses NYCFC.  For some reason, and maybe it's because the Rapids are better or the small field will benefit the Burgundy Boys, I think this one is a good result for Colorado.  Rapids win

So there you go!  I have the Rapids gone 3-1-1 in the month of July.  Do you agree?  Do you think I am full of it?  Hit us up in the comments and let us know!
