US Open Cup Recap--FC Dallas 2:1 Colorado Rapids--Dallas Thugs A Win At Home

Welp

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado Rapids traveled to the great state of Texas tonight to take on FC Dallas and it was a match that was marred by poor play and thug tackling by FC Dallas.   The Hoops ended up winning 2-1 on the night, but it was a disgusting match to watch and quite honestly, I am happy that the Rapids got out of there with just one injury.

The Rapids started the game brightly and were in control until a Agustin Jara horror tackle on Dillon Serna.  Look, I understand this is a Rapids blog, but crap like that has no place in soccer.  Serna needed to be subbed off and could not continue.  After that point I became less concerned with the result and more concerned that we could make it home to Denver in one piece.

The Rapids ended up taking the lead in the 38th minute from a Dominique Badji goal but Dallas equalized in the 64th off a massive defensive breakdown by the Rapids.  The game ended tied 1-1 and went into extra time where Dallas was able to find a winner in the 96th minute to book their place in the Quarterfinals.

The Rapids return to MLS play on Monday, 4 July 2016 at 7:00 PM MDT against Portland Timbers at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
