The Colorado Rapids take on FC Dallas for the first time in 2016 as the Burgundy Boys travel to Frisco in the Round of 16 in the 2016 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. For the Rapids they are taking on a Hoops team that is just a point behind them in the Supporters Shield standings and it represents another great test in this 2016 season.

Early Initial Thoughts
Both teams are coming off narrow Round Four US Open Cup wins with the Rapids knocking off Colorado Springs Switchbacks 1-0 and FC Dallas beating Oklahoma City Energy on PK's after being tied 2-2. Neither team looked great knocking off USL competition but that might not matter much here.
Both the Rapids and the Hoops have been solid all year and with the history and rivalry between these clubs I imagine this one will be a good match to watch. One of the key matchups will be the FC Dallas offense vs the Rapids defense. Dallas has the fourth highest scoring offense in MLS and the Rapids have the number one defense. It should be interesting to see how the Rapids deal with this as they have the ability to shut down Dallas but Dallas has shown they can score on anyone.
The Rapids should be close to full strength in this one as Jermaine Jones and Shkelzen Gashi will be back for the Rapids, so it would not shock me to see a lineup that features Gashi, Jones and Marco Pappa in the midfield with Kevin Doyle up front.
The Rapids and FC Dallas take to the pitch at 6:30 PM MDT on Wednesday night and the game will be live streamed.
