The Charlotte Independence take to the pitch tonight in Charlotte for the final match of a three game homestand and it could not be going worse for the Independence right now. Last week they lost to a USL expansion team and two weeks ago they had to scratch and claw to claim a point against the worst team in USL. Things need to change as they take on Richmond Kickers at Ramblewood tonight
The Goal for Charlotte: Stop the Rot and win the game
What to Watch For
1) Seriously, what is going on? We have spoken about this before...the Independence got off to this amazing start. On May 8, Charlotte was 5-2-0 (15 points, 2.14 PPG) and was as high as second in the USL Eastern Conference table. They looked to be a cinch for a playoff spot, but things then went wrong. So very wrong. They are now winless in their last six with a 0-3-3 (3 points, 0.50 PPG) and look like a complete mess.
2) And the Goals: in the six games they have pierced the net just four times (while conceding just six goals). It doesn't really matter how good your defense is when you can't put the ball in the back of the net.
3) The Good News: Richmond is beatable. They have nearly an identical record and are just a point about Charlotte in the standings. The Kickers are having the same struggles as Charlotte: a lack of scoring. However, soccer is about form and Richmond has only lost twice since the beginning of May and will think that they can win this one on the road.
