Euros start today oh boy oh boy oh boy.

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

It's the first day of Euro 2016! Host nation France plays Romania (1pm MST). There are the usual problems: French transit strikes, drunken British hooligans, and terrorism concerns. (Sigh). Modern football. But when it comes to on the pitch? Glorious. Look at this France lineup. They can bring Hatem Ben Arfa and Karim Benzema and Gignac and Martial and Patrice Evra OFF THE BENCH. My. God. And they aren't even favored to win...

Our very own Shkelzen Gashi begins his quest to lead his home nation of Albania against Switzerland tomorrow at 7am MST in the other Group A matchup. Albania are probably the weakest team in the group, but they match up pretty evenly with Romania and Switzerland, so getting out the group is totally do-able. Here's a great all-you-need-to-know-about-Albania from the Guardian...

Mexico beat Jamaica last night in a game in front of 80,000 El Tri fans in Pasadena, CA. Spanish speakers may now use the term 'Donaldson'ed' the way USMNT fans use the word 'Wondo'ed'; Jamaica probably could have gotten at least a draw if they could hit the broadside of a boat with their shots. Also, watch Hirving Lozano for the rest of this tourney. That kid can fly...

In the other Copa America Centenario game last night, Uruguay were bad and dumb and vulnerable on the counter to lowly Venezuela, and now they're toast. They'll play a meaningless game against fellow also-rans Jamaica next week for their troubles...

But is international soccer anywhere near as good as club soccer? 'Das Reboot' author Raphael Honigstein weighs in in a great short piece...

In transfer silliness, Paul Pogba will be almost certainly be sold, maybe to Man U, maybe to Real Madrid, for so much money...

Jurgen Klinsmann thinks Paraguay is a 'must win'. I expect that means we play for a tie...

And finally, expect to see MLS talisman Landon Don O Van on your TV screens during Copa. No word yet on whether Hat Trick Rick is in negotiations as well...

Good Shabbos! (That's Jewish for TGIF.)
