The Colorado Rapids and Columbus Crew SC took to the pitch under gloomy and chilly skies at MAPFRE stadium on Saturday night for the Rapids and while it was not the best performance you will ever see, it was another result for the Rapids. With the 1-1 tie, the Rapids are 7-2-3 (24 points, 2.0 PPG) and still are top of the table in MLS.
The first half the Rapids looked quite sluggish which appeared to be a direct result of three games in eight days. Although they controlled more of the ball, they rarely threatened the Columbus goal. There were some shaky defensive moments in which the Crew made the Rapids pay in the 23rd minute when Cedrick Mabwati socred. The Rapids were able to hold the Crew out the rest of the half, but were unable to find an equalizer.
The second half had the Rapids come out with far more fire and leveled it with a cool set piece goal from Kevin Doyle off a Shkelzen Gashi assist. The rest of the half had the Rapids and the Crew trying to find a winner, but it was not to be as the match ended tied 1-1.
The Rapids take the pitch next weekend against Seattle at Century Link Field at 8PM MDT
