The FIFA Simulation--Colorado Rapids 3:0 Montreal Impact

The Colorado Rapids and Montreal Impact have played some pretty exciting games over the history of the series:

Three of the four games have featured five or more goals.

And one of the games had seven goals.

Needless to say, it should be a fun one.

To preview this match I broke out the Commodore 64 and fired up FIFA 16 and gave it a whirl.  Here is how it turned out:

The Rapids were on the front foot from the beginning of the match as they had their first chance just two minutes into the match.  Luis Solignac had a great look at goal, but he smacked the post.  But the Rapids would find their first goal of the match as Sam Cronin (CRONIN!) found the back of the net from outside of the 18.  That goal seemed to wake up the Impact and they began to control longer portions of the match, but they were unable to turn that possession into anything concrete and the half ended 1-0 to the Rapids.

The second half started as the first ended with Montreal controlling the match, but that all changed in the 56th minute when Dillon Powers and Kevin Doyle were brought into the match.  Just a minute later Doyle found himself on the end of a Bobby Burling long ball that Doyle was able to smash into the back of the net.  And the Rapids would finish the scoring in the 64th minute on a headed goal from Dominique Badji.  The Impact continued to look for a goal but could not find the net in the final 25 minutes and the match ended 3-0 to the Rapids.

2nd Min: CHANCE--right from the kick the Rapids take the ball down the field and Solignac sees his effort whack the post and out for a goal kick

6th Min: CHANCE--Jones with an effort that forces a save and the ball goes out for a corner

7th Min: GOAL--Cronin with a blast from outside the 18 that finds its way into the box for a 1-0 Rapids lead

16th Min: CHANCE--Montreal with a headed effort that goes wide

27th Min: CHANCE--Azira rips it from distance but it is wide of  the net

35th Min: CHANCE--Montreal with a shot that is easily saved by MacMath

45th Min: CHANCE--Montreal with an excellent free kick that forces a tremendous save from MacMath.

48th Min: BOOKING--Montreal is shown the Yellow Card

55th Min: CHANCE--Solignac had a golden opportunity that he somehow sent wide!

56th Min: SUB--Dillon Powers replaces Jones and Kevin Doyle is on for Solignac

57th Min: GOAL--Doyle pays immediate dividends with a striking shot of an assist from Burling.  2-0 Rapids!

62nd Min: BOOKING--Cronin is shown the Yellow Card

64th Min: GOAL--Badji grabs a header off a corner and the rout is firmly on!

68th Min: BOOKING--Powers is shown the Yellow Card

71st Min: CHANCE--MacMath denies Montreal again with a great save!

78th Min: SUB--Dillon Serna is on for Cronin

82nd Min: CHANCE--Montreal is piling on the pressure now and their latest chance goes wide.

87th Min: CHANCE--Montreal with another terrific chance, but they are so unlucky.  Still 3-0 Rapids despite the increased pressure.
