There is a new attitude and atmosphere around Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and it is nice to see after many years of doubt and frustration. The Colorado Rapids beat the Seattle Sounders 3–1 on an electric evening in Commerce City.

The scoring started in the 20’ when Shkelzen Gashi dropped a free kick into the six and Jermaine Jones got his head onto it and into the back of the net. The Rapids built a 2–0 lead in the 51’ when Dominique Badji got down the left and crossed it into the box and Luis Solignac slid with the ball into the back of the net.

Jordan Morris made it close for the Sounders, getting his second MLS goal, beating Mekeil Williams and Zac MacMath in the 63’.

But just as Rapids fans were getting nervous, Dennis Castillo found Kevin Doyle on the near-post and the Rapids extended the lead.

There were many sub-plots to this match, but the disagreement between Gashi and Jones on who should take the penalty was the biggest one. Got to love the competitive nature of the two of them. But if Gashi is going to take it, he needs to bury it. And he didn’t.

Bobby Burling was the man of the match. Who was yours?
