Hair Madness: Elite Eight!

New, 3 comments

The surviving eight from the original thirty-two in the last head to head match-ups. Can the top seeds survive to the final round? Does Wil Trapp have another upset up his sleeve? Get out that hair vote!

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Young and old, bleached or mohawked, dreads and knots and shave jobs and au naturale. The Hair Madness tourney is down to only two rounds, and it's anybody's game. Half of the top seeds are gone as Lucas Melano and Mix Diskerud were felled by Wil Trapp and Mikey Lopez. Gimmicky hair like Dom Oduro and red hair like Nat Borchers and no hair like Conor Casey are all gone too. On to the final head to head round - the final round will be a straight vote of the top four.

We have hair commenter and Hair Madness Co-host StormInMay weighing in as well! Check it out.

Mikey Lopez (8) vs Diego Fagundez (5)

...

...

Rabbi:

With similar talent, speed, youth, and hair, the difference in this one might be your preference in mohawk length: long or short?

Storm:

Very similar hairstyles and they both totally work, but it's gonna come down to how you feel about facial hair.

Marlon Hairston (6) vs Robbie Rogers (2)

...

...

Rabbi:

Marlon already has the title for best MLS dreads, having outlasted both Kyle Beckerman and Jermaine Jones. Robbie Rogers keeps it simple and with just the right amount of hold. Also - a battle of fullbacks! Speedy wingers have all the more opportunity to display their locks in the breeze as they sprint down the line.

Storm:

Oh lord, this matchup is so beautiful it kind of makes me want to cry. I need whatever conditioner Robbie uses because that shine and volume is outta control, but Marlon's dreads are PERFECTION. So basically, we're all screw with this one. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Lee Nguyen (1) vs Harrison Afful (12)

...

...

Rabbi:

Nguyen has crushed all comers, beating Chance Myers 70-30 in round 1, and Jermaine Jones 67-33. Harrison Afful has been a great addition to a talented Columbus side, both in skills and in hair. Can he stop top-seed Lee Nguyen hair though?

Storm:

I love how Afful is rocking the baby dread version of the topknot, my personal hairstyle of choice. However, Lee's glorious feathered mane is on a roll and will be tough to beat.

Wil Trapp (15) vs Kei Kamara (6)

...

...

Rabbi:

Finally, our final matchup, a battle between Columbus teammates Trapp and Camara. I didn't see this one coming, as Trapp upset both David Bingham and Lucas Melano. Could be the boyish good looks. Could be Massive Report tweeting out with gusto. Let's see how this goes down. Note: Kamara hasn't been traded to NYC; he swapped jerseys post match. I assume he got the kit of fellow Hair Madness competitor Andrea Pirlo or David Villa?

Storm:

Many would label Wil Trapp's look as "boy next door", but I resent that because who is to say that Kei can't be the boy next door? Baby dreads are just as cute. I'm here for you both.

OK, Vote!

Results will be revealed Friday, as long as I can function from the jet lag of a long flight to Israel.
