Colorado Rapids Match Day First Look: New York Red Bulls

The Colorado Rapids return home on Saturday to take on New York Red Bulls after a satisfying 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City.  The Rapids were led by goals from Luis Solignac and Shkelzen Gashi as they were able to erase the memory of a difficult defeat a few days earlier in Utah.  New York is struggling this year and most recently loss to San Jose Earthquakes on the road.

The Records

The Rapids are 3-2-1 (10 points) and currently occupy the fifth spot in the Western Conference table.   The Red Bulls are 1-5-0 (3 points) and currently sit in ninth place in the Eastern Conference.

This one looks to be a battle of the 4-2-3-1 as it is the favored formation for both the Rapids and the Red Bulls.

Super Initial Early Thoughts

There will be shots.   The Red Bulls are fourth in the league in shots while the Rapids are fifth.  So there should be some decent offensive play from both teams, but neither one scores a ton.  The Rapids are 17th in scoring and the Red Bulls are 18th.  So the teams like to shoot the ball, but both seem to have trouble hitting the broad side of a barn while standing next to it.

But the reality is here is both teams will feel like they can grab a result in this match.  The Rapids will be riding high after their big time win in Kansas and the Red Bulls will feel quite unlucky to have just the one win.  Who will grab all three points?  And will the weather be a factor on Saturday?  Um, yeah
