Colorado Rapids MatchDay: Previewing April

Jermaine Jones makes his debut in a month which looks to be a very difficult run of games.

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

The month of April for the Colorado Rapids looks to be a pretty tough run for them as they face six matches in 29 days and five of those six are against playoff teams from 2015.  And the sixth is against Rocky Mountain Cup rival Real Salt Lake.  Needless to say, April is going to be difficult.

But it is also a great measuring stick for the Rapids.  Right now they are 1-1-1 (4 points) and are playing with some hope that this season could be different.  Have a good April and that hope will be justified.  But struggle.....a lot of the doubt from the last two season creeps back in.

Here is our look at April for the Colorado Rapids:

Saturday, 2 April 2016:  vs Toronto FC

The Rapids take on the Reds this Saturday and it will be quite the emotional night.  They will be facing the return of Drew Moor and Clint Irwin and taking on one of the best teams in MLS.  I think that the Rapids will be adjusting to life without Kevin Doyle and I think this one may be a road too far.  2-1 win for Toronto

Saturday, 9 April 2016:  at Real Salt Lake

A trip to Sandy, Utah awaits the Rapids as they take to the road for the first of three away matches and the Rapids have historically struggled in Utah.  I think this ends up being an ugly match that ends in a 1-1 draw.

Wednesday, 13 April 2016:  at Sporting Kansas City

Although the Rapids defeated Sporting at the end of last season, this is a different Sporting team and this Rapids team looks to be over matched against a (currently) undefeated SKC team.  3-0 win for Sporting

Saturday, 16 April 2016:  vs New York Red Bulls

This is the first match with Jermaine Jones and I think he will inspire the Burgundy Boys to their biggest win of the year.  3-1 win for the Rapids

Saturday, 23 April 2016 vs Seattle Sounders

I am not sure whether Seattle is a good team or not but I think the Rapids will be in a good way after the win over the Red Bulls from the previous week and will knock off a struggling Sounders team.  1-0 win for the Rapids

Saturday, 30 April 2016 at Montreal Impact

The Rapids end the month with a road trip to Canada and will run into a Montreal team that looks to be very solid and will have Didier Drogba and Ignacio Piatti ready to go.  This feels like a loss.  4-1 win for the Impact
