The Colorado Rapids traveled to Avaya Stadium today to open their 2016 MLS Season against San Jose Earthquakes and dropped a 1-0 decision to their Western Conference rivals. The Rapids had plenty of possession and chances, but were unable to find a goal to snatch a point on the road.
The first half was a back and forth affair as both sides had their chances, and although the Rapids dominated possession, they were unable to find a goal. Kevin Doyle had a number of looks, but those looks did not translate into marks on the scoreboard.
The second hall opened with a flash as Chris Wondolowski scored for the Quakes on a beautiful header. Wondo was completely unmarked and his header found the corner for the goal. The rest of the half found the Rapids chasing the match and while they had chance after chance, they could not find an equalizer.
