Pappa and Doyle Get the Call

The Rapids get two called up for International Duty.

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The International Window.  That time in a soccer season where we are treated to seeing our National teams duke it out in friendlies or in other important competitions.

And for fans of the USMNT, this is an important time indeed as we have qualifying for the 2018 World Cup against Guatemala.  Which is kind of fun as it features a Colorado Rapids player.

The Denver Post reported Tuesday that Marco Pappa (for Guatemala) and Kevin Doyle (Republic of Ireland) had both been called up for International Duty.  Pappa, of course, will take part in matches against the United States in Guatemala and in the USA while Doyle will play against Switzerland and Slovakia.

So what is really nice about these call-ups is that they fall within an International Window where the Rapids do not have a match to play.  (This has not been the norm).  And while there are MLS games during this window (just three), the Rapids are not one of the participants.

Please join Burgundy Wave in congratulating Doyle and Pappa on their call-ups.
