On Saturday evening, the Colorado Rapids will play their first game of the 2016 campaign within the friendly confines of Dick's Sporting Goods Park against LA Galaxy. Temperatures in the Denver metro area have been fantastic over the past few weeks, and it should be another nice warm day for the league fixture.
Colorado (0-1-0) are coming off a 1-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes on the weekend. Chris Wondolowski scored the lone goal just after the restart to put the Rapids to the sword. Several Colorado players made their league debuts, but new signing Jermaine Jones will have to wait as the defensive midfielder is currently serving a six-match ban. Defensively, the Rapids performed decently against San Jose but they will have their work cut out for them with the quality that LA's attack brings.
Los Angeles (1-0-0) are coming off a 4-1 win over DC United on Sunday night. Mike Magee led the team with two goals while Daniel Steres and Robbie Keane also tallied for the Carson-based side. Steven Gerrard added two assists while Lamar Neagle scored the lone goal for DC United. Giovanni dos Santos is not expected to play as the Mexican international went off injured in the opening fixture.
Rapids head coach Pablo Mastroeni will be looking to get a result at home before a road trip to Washington DC next weekend. The former club legend has to get things right in 2016 otherwise he could be facing the sack following two disappointing seasons the past two years. Regardless, a win at home on Saturday evening would go a long way to easing pressure on the coach, while also giving the fans a boost.
