The Preseason is done and the Rapids finish 4-2-1 in their seven games

Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado Rapids played in their final preseason match of the 2016 season this time against USL side Arizona United SC.  This felt like a completely different match and team as the Rapids cruised to a 3-0 victory over the USL squad.  The Rapids were led by goals from Kevin Doyle and Shkelzen Gashi and solid goalkeeping from starter Zac MacMath.

In the first half, first 15 minutes or so were a back and forth affair with both sides trying to establish possession and feel the other side out.  The Rapids drew first blood as a cross from the left side found the head of an Arizona United defender and went in for an own goal.  It wasn't anything that the Rapids did not deserve as they were beginning to dominate possession and the game itself.  In the 31st minute, the Gashi to Doyle connection struck gold for the first time as Gashi delievered a beautiful touch pass to Doyle who buried it in the bottom corner to extend the lead to 2-0.

The second half was pretty quiet for the first bit until Gashi found himself on the end of an Azira cross and had no trouble finishing it to make it 3-0 to the Rapids.   The rest of the game was an exercise in passing and possession and the Rapids were complete the victory and bring their record to 4-2-1 on the preseason.
