Colorado Rapids 1:4 Sporting Kansas City--Rapids Crushed in Arizona

New, 1 comment

With the loss, the Rapids fall to 3-2-1 on the preseason.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado Rapids and Sporting Kansas City got together for the first time in 2016 tonight under a beautiful moonlit sky in Tucson, Arizona and despite having good spells of possession and plenty of opportunities, the Rapids dropped a 4-1 decision.

"Dropped a 4-1 decision" does not do this match justice.  The Rapids were outplayed in this match and while the scoreline was harsh, it was also a fair representation of this match.  To wit:

The Rapids gave up three penalty kicks.  All three were earned by Sporting defenders.

The Rapids had moments of good possession and good attack, but still could not score a goal.

The only Rapids goal came late in the match and was nothing but a consolation.

So where do the Rapids go from here?  Well, they played OK at times, but so very bad in others.  They have one more game let in preseason and they need to get this figured out.  And quickly.  First kick is in a week and a half in San Jose.

Rapids Starting XI:

Zac MacMath (Chris Froschauer, 46'),  Eric Miller (Dennis Castillo, 46'), Bobby Burling (Stephen Keel, 46'), Axel Sjoberg (AJ Cochran, 46'), Mekeil Williams (Marc Burch, 46'), Jared Watts (Sam Cronin, 46'), Micheal Azira (Brad Spencer, 46'), Dillon Powers (Zach Pfeffer, 46'), Dominique Badji (Luis Solignac, 46'), Shkelzen Gashi (Dillon Serna, 46'), Kevin Doyle (Conor Doyle, 46')
