The Colorado Rapids played a Major League Soccer opponent for the first time this preseason as they met Western Conference foe Houston Dynamo in the second match of the Desert Diamond Cup. The match was back and forth, and although neither team looked that great, there were some chances for both teams. At the end of it though, it ended 0-0 and allowed the Rapids to pick up their first point in the Desert Diamond Cup.
The first half was a largely boring affair as the Rapids and Dynamo seemed content to absorb pressure and did not offer many strong opportunities. However, the Rapids clearly had the better of the chances with Dillon Serna, Dillon Powers and Kevin Doyle all having decent looks on goal, but the first half ended 0-0 which was probably the correct scoreline after 45 minutes.
There were not any changes for the Rapids at the start of the second half.
Houston was the more aggressive team in the second half and had a number of great opportunities including one that hammered off the crossbar. However, none was as great as the PK in the 64th Minute that was blasted so high it has not come down yet. The Rapids made wholesale changes in the 70th minute with Marc Burch taking over as Captain for the subbed off Doyle. The Rapids continued to push to look for a game winner, but could not as the game ended 0-0.
The Starting XI:
Zac MacMath, Dennis Castillo, Axel Sjoberg, Bobby Burling, Eric Miller, Jared Watts, Micheal Azira, Dominique Badji, Dillon Powers, Dillon Serna, Kevin Doyle
The Line-Up at the 70th Min
