The United States Women's National Team has had an interesting Olympic Qualifying tournament. They have been very solid throughout and look like world beaters that no one can touch. They have picked up two wins (5-0 over Costa Rica and 1-0 over Mexico) and have qualified for the semifinals.
But....
The close 1-0 win over Mexico had some fears creeping in about the team (a price of success I guess).
The goal for the USA: keep everyone healthy
The Group A Table
Win | Loss | Tie | Points | Goal Differential | |
United States | 2 | 0 | 0 | 6 | +6 |
Mexico | 1 | 1 | 0 | 3 | +5 |
Costa Rica | 1 | 1 | 0 | 3 | +4 |
Puerto Rico | 0 | 2 | 0 | 0 | -15 |
What to Watch For
1) Semifinals, here we come--The USWNT has already booked their place into the semifinal round which leaves them just a win away from the Olympics. This obviously makes the result tonight not all that important, but you want to hit the semifinal stage clicking on all cylinders. Puerto Rico should not be much of a test
2) Who could we face--assuming that the USWNT wins tonight in Frisco, who could they play in the semifinals? Not Canada (unless they somehow drop a +15 goal differential). So that leaves Guyana or Trinidad & Tobago. Both of those teams should be beatable and set up a potential final against Canada.
