The Colorado Rapids acquired defender Eric Miller from Montreal Impact today in exchange for their 2018 first round MLS SuperDraft pick. Miller, a first round MLS SuperDraft selection in 2014 for the Impact has played over 2,100 minutes in Montreal and has also represented the USMNT U-23 team and was at the January national camp.
This is a good move by the Rapids as Miller is primarily a right back and depth at that position is a bit thin, particularly at right back, and overall along the backline. But what does this mean for the Rapids and Marlon Hairston? Hairston, started three games at right back for the club last season but is a midfielder by trade and could, and probably should, be slotted along the wing in midfield.
LOVEEEE THIS TRADE FOR THE RAPIDS!!!! We need some defenders like nobody's business and Miller is such a promising USMNT fullback!— Uptown Squirrel (@yungroxfan) February 14, 2016
So how could the Rapids lineup in 2016? Based on this move, here is my ideal lineup:
Zac MacMath, Mekeil Williams, Sean St. Ledger, Axel Sjoberg, Eric Miller, Sam Cronin, Dillon Powers, Dillon Serna, Shkelzen Gashi, Marco Pappa, Kevin Doyle
