The United States Women's National Team is in action tonight as they take on Costa Rica in the opener of Group A play for both countries. For the USWNT, the goal is simple: win the match tonight and begin the quest for a fourth consecutive Gold Medal.
Group A Teams: Costa Rica, Mexico, Puerto Rico, United States of America
What to Watch For:
1) Complacency: The USA are the best team in this tournament and the number one ranked team in the world and the three time defending Olympic Champions. And they won that big tournament last summer in Canada for their third World Cup title. The team is brimming with confidence, but Costa Rica is no slouch. They are 36th in the World and will not roll over for the USA. This is not a gimmie game for the Red, White and Blue.
2) Lawsuit Drama: The United States Soccer Federation sued the USWNT over the possibility of a work stoppage when the collective bargaining agreement ends between USSF and USWNT. And a few days ago, the USWNT responded to USSF and called their claims fiction. I can't imagine this impacts the squad of Jill Ellis, but this is the kind of thing that you do not want to be an issue.
