The Colorado Rapids had a busy day on Monday by first announcing that they had signed Albanian Striker Shkëlzen Gashi as a Designated Player. And then they confirmed what had been rumored for a few days now: Marcelo Sarvas was traded to D.C. United for Target Allocation Money and a conditional 2018 MLS SuperDraft Pick. Here is Paul Bravo, Vice President of Soccer Operations and Technical Director:
"Marcelo has been the complete professional during his time with the Rapids. We would like to thank him for his contribution on and off the field and wish him all the best with his new club."
Sarvas played 25 games for the Rapids and found the back of the net twice in Burgundy and the defensive midfielder was a major reason why the Rapids defense improved in 2015 from a lackluster 2014. And he was a leader on an off the pitch and wore the Armband several times this season for Colorado. But the Rapids are in rebuild mode and you have to think it would be tough for him to commit to a rebuilding effort when he is in win now mode.
So what do you think about this latest move Rapids fans? Are you sad to see Sarvas go? Are you happy with what the Rapids got in return? Hit us up in the comment section and let us know!
