Congratulations to both guys from the Burgundy Wave!

MLS: Playoffs-Los Angeles Galaxy at Colorado Rapids Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

To top off what has been a great season so far for the Colorado Rapids, it was recently announced that our very own Shkëlzen Gashi won the 2016 AT&T MLS Goal of the Year! After several rounds of voting, Gashi’s bomb continued to make it through with little competition. He ended up beating out Jack Harrison of New York City FC for the final spot, winning with 77% of the votes.

The goal in question was the free kick he took on September 24 vs the Vancouver Whitecaps. The game eventually ended in a 3-3 tie. Let’s re-live that goal together:

It doesn’t get much better than that. Gashi also won Fan Favorite and the team’s Golden Boot at the A Burgundy Affair Awards Gala earlier this month.

Axel Sjoberg was up for Defender of the Year, and is was also announced that he came in third, behind Matt Hedges (FC Dallas,) and Jelle van Damme (LA Galaxy). He did win Defender of the Year for the team.

Tim Howard is still up for Allstate Goalkeeper of the Year, to be announced on November 17, and Pablo Mastroeni is up for Coach of the Year, to be announced on November 29.

Congratulations to Gashi and Axel! Good luck to Tim and Pablo!
