This is what we have been talking about for most of the summer. The Colorado Rapids have enjoyed at least two games in hand versus FC Dallas. But could they take advantage of them.

The Rapids answered that tonight with some big performances from the players and earned a 3-2 win on the road against the Houston Dynamo.

The scoring opened up early, a rare affair for the Rapids. Dominique Badji opened the scoring in the 12’ on a feed from Dillon Powers. The score remained the 1-0 until late in the first half when Mario Manotas scored on the cross to make it 1-1 at half.

The Rapids withstood an enthusiastic Dynamo squad fighting for their playoff life, but were able to find Badji who was able to get it over Dynamo keeper Joe Willis and make it 2-1 in the 54’.

As the Dynamo were pressing and trying to equalize, the Rapids were able to get that insurance goal when Shkelzen Gashi took the feed from Micheal Azira to make it 3-1 in the 79’. They would need that goal because the Dynamo got one back in the 81’ on a freekick by Mauro Manotas.

The Rapids kept that one goal lead and the win.
