Colorado Rapids MatchDay: The Burgundy Starting XI & Game Thread

The Rapids are going for a win and securing that second place spot in the Western Conference.

MLS: Portland Timbers at Colorado Rapids Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

We had a rough stretch there for awhile, Rapids faithful. But after clinching a playoff berth last weekend at home, things are looking up. And it could get even better with a win against Houston Dynamo. A win tonight would secure a second place spot in the Western Conference, which means that 1. the Supporters’ Shield is still in reach, and 2. that the Colorado Rapids would get a first round bye in the playoffs, skipping the knockout round.

While the Rapids (13-5-12, 51 points) are pumped up from knocking down the Portland Timbers last week, the Dynamo (7-12-11, 32 points) are coming off a loss to New York City FC. The Dynamo is sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference, and will have no chance of making the playoffs if they lose or tie tonight.

We were hoping to see Kevin Doyle on the pitch, but he’s now sick, so hopefully he’ll be back by next week. Marlon Hairston seems to have aggravated an injury at practice late in the week, so he isn’t starting. I still think that Le Toux-Gashi-Powers-Badji is a decent offensive force, so we’ll see out it shakes out.

My final score predictions? Rapids 2, Dynamo 0.
