This weekend, the Colorado Rapids are hosting the West region’s U-17 Generation adidas Cup tournament at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. It’s part of the MLS Homegrown Initiative, which focuses on player development and elite youth competition. For some, the cup leads to getting picked up to play in MLS, like Dillon Serna who obviously plays for the Rapids and Victor Ulloa on FC Dallas.

Today, the Rapids U-17 squad kicked off the tournament by taking on the Portland Timbers. Eban Noverr scored for the Rapids in the 34th minute on a penalty kick, and then Portland tied it up with a penalty kick of their own in the 62nd minute. Stefan Deleone scored again for the Rapids in the 75th minute, and Eban Noverr put in another PK during stoppage time, for a final score of 3-1.

There are three matches per day on Friday, Saturday, and Monday, all on Field 20. The Rapids play Real Salt Lake at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, and then they play the San Jose Earthquakes on Monday at 2 p.m. See the full schedule here.

The finals are going to be April 7-15, 2017 in Frisco, Texas.

UPDATE: The Colorado Rapids U-17 won all three of their matches this weekend! Congrats, boys!
