The Colorado Rapids will close out the regular season with a home match against Houston Dynamo on Sunday afternoon. The Rapids are the only MLS team that is unbeaten at home and a win against Houston could help the Commerce City side to their first ever Supporters’ Shield trophy; however, FC Dallas do have the upper hand in the race for the best overall record in Major League Soccer. Kickoff is set for 2:00pm MT and the match will be broadcast on Altitude.

Either way, Colorado (15-6-12, 57 points) will finish with their best regular season record in the team’s history. The Rapids have had a remarkable turnaround from the past two seasons and have also qualified for the CONCACAF Champion’s League for the first time since the team won the 2010 MLS Cup.

Houston (7-14-12, 33 points) have had a season to forget and are poised to finish bottom of the Western Conference. The Dynamo are coming off a 0-1 loss to LA Galaxy last weekend. Alan Gordon scored the lone goal as LA Galaxy put Houston to the sword at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Dynamo only mustered two shots on target while also losing their third straight game at home.

While the playoffs loom for the Rapids, this game is still important as Colorado has a chance to win the Supporters’ Shield trophy, which is the best overall record in Major League Soccer during the regular season. In American sports, the best record really means nothing if you don’t win in the playoffs, but the fact is that the Rapids organization deserves a lot of credit for the incredible turnaround in 2016. The Supporters’ Shield would truly be icing on the cake after an incredible season.
