Colorado Rapids preseason is in full swing as the team hit the pitch for the first official practice of the pre-season and there was some roster clarity to come out of it. Daniel Bonifiace from The Denver Post tweeted out a couple of nuggets that should help clear up things a bit:
#Rapids96 confirm Zac MacMath is the No. 1 keeper for 2016.— Daniel Boniface (@danielboniface) January 25, 2016
This is good news. Hopefully this puts to rest any of that silly talk about Tim Howard coming to Colorado and the team can move forward. I do get the loss of Irwin was tough, but MacMath is a good keeper who can lead this team,
So about Juan Ramirez....
We haven't really reported on it here at Burgundy Wave as there was too much rumor and not a clear understanding as to what was going on with Ramirez. But I think it's safe to say he is done in Colorado. Not that anyone would be too bummed about that. You can say all you want about the system of Pablo Mastroeni, but Ramirez was largely a bust.
And there is Joseph Greenspan.
We knew he was in the Navy and he is currently fulfilling some of his Naval obligations. It's not clear when he will be back with the club, but I think it is fantastic that he is able to serve our country. Yes, it is a bummer that he will be missing time with the club, but I can think of no greater reason to do so.
But about that roster. As of right now...at 3:57 PM MST:
GOALKEEPERS: John Berner, Zac MacMath
DEFENDERS: Marc Burch, Bobby Burling, Marlon Hairston, Axel Sjoberg, Sean St. Ledger, Jared Watts
MIDFIELDERS: Micheal Azira, Sam Cronin, Marco Pappa, Zach Pfeffer, Dillon Powers, Marcelo Sarvas, Dillon Serna
FORWARDS: Dominique Badji, Caleb Calvert, Kevin Doyle, Luis Solignac
DRAFT PICKS: Emmanuel Appiah, Dennis Castillo, Chris Froschauer, Bradley Kamdem, John Manga, Javan Torre
A tad thin me thinks....but it is clear that the Rapids will need to sign some players. And fast.
