Earler in the week, it was scoffed at that the Rapids would be looking at Everton and USMNT goalkeeper Tim Howard, partially because the Rapids already had two starter-worthy goalkeepers at the helm. They "fixed that problem" today by trading Clint Irwin to Toronto FC.
Irwin was traded for targeted allocation money -- the amount, as per usual, was not disclosed -- along with a third-round selection in this year's SuperDraft and a conditional first rounder in next year's SuperDraft. The first-rounder's conitions were also not disclosed in the deal, but one would assume they have something to do with the amount of playing time that Irwin receives this season, or perhaps it is based on them making the playoffs. Either way, the Rapids are down now only to Zac MacMath and John Berner, with a large Tim Howard-sized hole to fill left.
Something on the personal and fan-wide ramifications of this move should be out later today. Until then, what are your thoughts on the Rapids dropping Irwin?
