The Colorado Rapids will look to keep the Houston Dynamo from taking a step towards the MLS playoffs on Saturday evening in a city where the Rapids have historically struggled. Houston are currently on the outside looking in when it comes to a postseason spot, but the team has done well at home after impressive shutout wins over the likes of Los Angeles and New York Red Bulls.
Colorado (8-11-10, 34 pts), are currently bottom of the western conference after being on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline in Toronto on the weekend. The Rapids gave Sebastian Giovinco too much space and the Italian international scored two early goals. Dillon Powers was able to pull one back for the visitors just before halftime, but it proved to be a mere consolation that ended the scoring at 3-1.
Houston (10-12-8, 38 pts), are only three points behind a playoff spot and greatly improved their somewhat slim playoff hopes as they defeated Sporting Kansas City in a midweek game at BBVA Compass Stadium. Will Bruin scored for the Dynamo as the home side were also able to keep the clean sheet and earn all three points.
With the Rocky Mountain Cup next Sunday, the Rapids will not want to overlook this match. The Sunday late afternoon kickoff against Real Salt Lake will be a chance to bring the Rocky Mountain Cup back to Colorado. It is unclear whether Kevin Doyle will feature on the weekend as the Irish striker is battling fitness issues. The Rapids have played Houston twice this season, drawing 0-0 in Houston while winning 2-1 in August at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
