The Charlotte Independence take the pitch for the final time in the regular season on Saturday as they travel to Charleston, South Carolina to take on the Battery with the playoffs on the line. Charlotte had their unbeaten run snapped last weekend in Saint Louis but they travel to Charleston knowing a win guarantees them a place in the USL Eastern Conference playoffs.
The Goal for Charlotte: this one is easy--win.
The Eastern Conference Table
|Louisville City FC||48||27||14||7||6|
|New York Red Bulls II||42||27||12||9||6|
|Harrisburg City Islanders||39||27||11||10||6|
|Saint Louis FC||30||27||7||11||9|
|Toronto FC II||22||26||6||16||4|
|Wilmington Hammerheads FC||18||27||3||15||9|
What to Watch For
1) Destiny Controlled: All any professional sports team should want is the ability to control their own destiny when it comes to making the playoffs. And the Independence have that. It is simple for Charlotte: win the match against Charleston Battery and you have qualified for the USL Eastern Conference Playoffs.
2) The Other Scenario: Charlotte can also qualify for the playoffs if they tie with Charleston on Saturday AND Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Harrisburg City Islanders tie. But it seems easier for the Independence to just win their match in South Carolina.
3) Table Placement: If Charlotte wins on Saturday they could finish as high as fourth and if that happens they would host a playoff match in Charlotte.
