#OneClub Report: A Weekend of Missed Opportunities

Both Charlotte and Colorado dropped points this weekend.

Ugh.

This was not how things were supposed to go for the Colorado Rapids and the Charlotte Independence this weekend.

The Rapids were supposed to win at home and keep their slight playoff hopes alive and the Independence were supposed to get a result on the road that would have allowed them to inch closer to a playoff berth.

So about that....

The #OneClub Report

1)  Frustrated in Saint Louis: Charlotte had not lost since mid July and looked poised to grab a playoff spot with a victory, however that was not meant to be.  Charlotte was only able to manage a single shot on goal and for a team looking to make the playoffs, that will never do.

2)  Still Plenty of Hope: Losing was not the nail in the coffin and there is everything to play for.  On Wednesday night, Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Harrisburg City Islanders both play.  If they both lose that match, the Independence will be even closer to that berth.  And if they both lose it means that Charlotte controls their own destiny.  I imagine there will be some scoreboard watching in the Queen City on Wednesday night.

3)  Rapids Blow it Late: Everyone saw this one coming.  The Rapids did not play particularly well on Saturday night, but well enough for a win.  Alas, they held on until the final moments of the game when D.C. United tied it up.  And even then the Rapids had their chances into stoppage time and just blew it.  They have six games left and are seven points behind sixth place.  I guess the one, very small, bright spot is that the Rapids have games against Portland Timbers and Sporting Kansas City where they could pick up points.  But the simple truth is the Rapids will probably need at least 4 wins and probably five to make it.

And even sadder....the Rapids could be eliminated from playoff contention by the end of the month.

The Rapids travel to BMO Field to take on Toronto FC on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 PM MDT and the Independence will play their final regular season game at Charleston Battery at 5:30 PM MDT on Saturday night.
